The ins and outs of the hole in your head

The ins and outs of the hole in your head is a performance about the different meanings of ‘eating’. It takes the form of a personal and interactive theatrical essay. In this essay Emke lays bare the tensions between eating as an individual act, warranting our sheer existence, and eating as a social event that we in the Netherlands call ‘gezellig’. By observing the unwritten rules of our social interaction, Emke researched the different relations with our bodies and physicality. She encountered miniature taboos and (unwanted) intimacies. Through these experiences she traces the lines of the acceptable. How we eat shows us how we live together.
